NY BRIDAL MARKET: Proper Never Looked This Pretty

April 7, 2009

I want to make this clear—I am not a lady who lunches.  However, after seeing Oscar de la Renta’s stunning bridal collection, I felt like throwing on a classic sheath and ballet flats, and heading to Fred’s at Barneys New York for a glass of chardonnay.  Who could blame me?  The show opened with a powder blue silk-faille knee-length dress followed by an embroidered sheath (worn with a tulle coat) that were oh- so- ladylike.  On the ballgown front, no one does volume like de la Renta.  When a silk-organza design with a cloud-like crinoline skirt came floating down the aisle, the normally reserved me wanted to shout “Big and billowy? Bring it on!”.  While there were plenty of other gorgeous light-as-air gowns, perfect for that garden wedding, I also appreciated the designer mixing things up a bit with a sexy silk pants and embroidered coat ensemble. Obviously, de la Renta’s lady can also be a bit of a vamp.  Bravo!  —Terrie, NY Bridal Market
